HEIC files are decoded with libheif (LGPL-3.0), loaded unmodified. Source code

Your files never leave your device: they are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1Add your HEIC photos: drop them on the box above, pick them from your device or paste them.
  2. 2Choose the JPG quality. 90% looks identical to the original while keeping files small.
  3. 3Download each JPG, or all of them together as one ZIP file.

Why iPhone photos are HEIC

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. HEIC stores the same picture in about half the space of a JPG, which is great on the phone but awkward everywhere else: many Windows PCs, Android apps, online forms and photo printing services still cannot open it.

JPG is the most widely supported photo format, so converting gives you a file that works with any app, email or upload form.

Colors, orientation and photo details

iPhone photos use the wide Display P3 color space. The converter keeps the photo’s color profile inside the JPG, so reds and greens look as vivid as on your phone instead of washed out. Rotation is applied too, so portrait photos stay upright.

Photo details such as the date, camera model and location are kept by default, so your photo library stays sorted by date. Untick “Keep photo details” to remove them, for example before posting a photo online.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. You can convert up to 20 photos of up to 50 MB each per batch for free. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Every photo is decoded and converted inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is why it also works on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Will the JPG lose quality?

At 90% quality the JPG looks the same as the original to the eye. Choose 100% for the highest quality, or a lower value for smaller files to send by email.

What about Live Photos and burst photos?

A Live Photo is saved as a HEIC still plus a short video. The converter turns the still into a JPG. For files that hold several images, the main photo is converted.

How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

Open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos are then saved as JPG, but older photos stay HEIC, so you still need to convert those.
